I take this opportunity to thank E.L. Konigsburg, my favorite author, for all her beautiful books, which have inspired me to sing gracefully and for her understanding and patience regarding my concern about Japanese translations.

I would also like to thank Paul Konigsburg, Elaine's son and agent, and Angharad Kowal, the Subsidiary Rights Manager, International Markets at Simon & Schuster.

It is due to their cooperation and prompt responses that the publisher, Iwanami, is paying increasing amount of attention to the quality of translations (At very least, steps to correct the most egregious errors are been taken).

Bad publishing has been a serious problem in Japan. It is shameful that we have allowed the situation to become so bad that I needed the author's help.
I expect a sense of responsibility and conscientiousness from all publishers in Japan. I sincerely hope that my tiny voice can awaken people's love for words and books.


I would like to thank all my friends for being there for me. Their warm and unwavering encouragement enabled me to embark on this adventure. I am indeed blessed to have such wonderful friends. Besides, when I first started this mission, I had no idea that I would have the pleasure of making new friends.


I have just set out on my thousand-mile odyssey. The path seems thorny and precipitous, but with the support of all my old and new friends, I have the belief that this is the most marvelous journey that I have ever experienced.
